We are all working hard on our health. But often we will ask “what is it all for?” I am inspired by this quote from Fyodor Dostoyevsky: “The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.”

“The mystery of human existence lies not in just staying alive, but in finding something to live for.”

In my heart, I truly want to live my  life to the fullest.  I don’t want to just live longer, I want to live deeper by learning everyday how to love and be loved in deeply meaningful ways. It’s easier to say that than to actually practice, but regardless, it’s what gets me out of bed in the morning.

When I’m regularly active, eat wisely, take time to de-stress and foster loving relationships, these behaviors make me come to life — they become my personal trainers.

Every Choice and Encounter is An Opportunity

On a daily basis, I am humbled by my imperfect efforts at loving, and I am often daunted by my blocks to letting love come more easily and quickly to me. My focus on better giving and receiving is pervasive, compelling, enriching, and yes, it is often frustrating and crazy-making! But the practice is teaching me that every thought is a choice and every encounter is an opportunity.

When I’m regularly active, eat wisely, take time to de-stress and foster loving relationships, these behaviors make me come to life — they become my personal trainers.  The more I put these lifestyle tools into practice, it becomes increasingly easier to access my joie de vivre!  I relish in the simple yet profound sources of joy all around me.  My husband’s obtuse sense of humor confuses me and cracks me up with laughter at the same time, as does his “Welcome Home” shout-out each evening and his arms around me.  My daughter’s electric smile, contagious laughter, sharp wit, and caring heart makes me beam with pride.  My colleagues teach me and inspire me everyday with their generous inclusivity and knowledgeable insights.

These sources of joy make my lifestyle efforts worth it. As I get healthier, stronger, and more connected, my sources of joy continue to expand.

What brings you the greatest joy and meaning in your life?
