Never “Diet” Again

Over the years “dieting” for the sake of achieving a number on the scale can quickly take its toll on us. Because of its shortsighted focus solely on weight loss, “dieting” can often diminish our overall sense of happiness and self worth.
Diets fail because they try to force an ocean of a person into a thimble
Diets fail, time and time again, because our spirits rebel under such tyranny. This rebellion, centered in a deep down fight for our worth, is actually a healthy response. Unfortunately, this healthy instinct to avoid deprivation gets lost. As we rebel against the battle of dieting, it appears that we have lost the war.
You are Not a Failure
Then we are left with an emotional wasteland, filled with anger and loss, all adding up to the “F” word—Failure. “How did this happen again?” we ask in despair. At this juncture, it is time to revive your suppressed spirit. Vow to yourself, “I will never diet again!” Remind yourself, “I did not fail! I am not a failure!” Repeat this mantra whenever necessary, over and over. Diets don’t fail merely because we don’t lose weight. Diets fail because they try to force an ocean of a person into a thimble. Clearly this isn’t humanly possible. So we declare: “There is just too much of me, in my expansive mind, body and spirit, to diminish myself again.” What a relief. Hello freedom.

The Weight Falls Off Naturally
No one can deny that a healthy weight contributes to overall health and vitality. It is an excellent goal only when kept in context of the whole person. Enter Dean Ornish. Good riddens to dieting. Hello to a new way of living! The Ornish Program’s four key elements have not only been scientifically validated, they’re compassionate. The Ornish Program focuses on the whole person — It heals us inside and out and from the outside in. The weight falls away over time, naturally, as the focus shifts from deprivation to abundance and joy. It is not magic, its joy. We feel better, and when we feel better, we do better. We never have to “diet” again. What a blessed relief. What has been your experience regarding “dieting” vs. lifestyle changes?
